About This Site

The Pacific Northwest Wildfire Coordination Group (PNWCG) supports the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy and its three major goals: resilient landscapes, safe and effective wildfire response, and creating and maintaining fire-adapted communities. The PNWCG Communication, Prevention, and Investigation Committee (CPIC) has organized this site to create and maintain fire-adapted communities in the Pacific Northwest.

What is a Fire Adapted Community? (FAC)

Communities in wildfire prone areas are learning what it takes to be fully prepared for wildland fire. A fire-adapted community incorporates people, buildings, businesses, infrastructure, cultural resources, and natural areas into the effort to prepare for the effects of wildland fire.

Community leaders and residents accept responsibility for living in an area with wildfire hazards. They have the knowledge and the skills and have adopted tools and actions to prepare in advance for their community's resilience in a wildfire prone environment.
